Book- JUCHE: The Weeping Masses
Author- Adria Carmichael
Rating-4.5/5
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
This is my standard one:
Adria Carmichael is a writer of Young Adult Dystopian fiction with a twist. When she is not devouring dystopian and post-apocalyptic content in any format - books, movies, TV-series and PlayStation games - she is crafting the epic and highly-addictive Juche saga, her 2020 debut novel series that takes place in the brutal, totalitarian nation of Choson. When the limit of doom and gloom is reached, a 10K run on a sunny day or binging a silly sitcom on a rainy day is her go-to way to unwind.
ABOUT THE BOOK :
A highly addictive Young Adult Dystopian Survival Saga that will keep you glued to the pages.
Areum’s hopes to be set free from the brutal political prison camp holding them is crushed, and the heinous assault on her sister plunges her into a state of shock and horror… and puts her on a collision course with her family. All hope seems to be lost. Just when she is about to give up, however, a disturbing revelation is made… and as the evil of the camp is given a face, Areum finds a new purpose to keep fighting.
Revenge!
But first they need to survive, and with the constantly harshening conditions and her family being targeted from all directions, daily life in Yodok turns into a never-ceasing fight to evade imminent doom.
On top of everything, an impossible tragedy strikes Choson, and the unquestionable truth Areum has built her life around is challenged to its very core.
MY TAKE:
The Weeping Masses belong to series Juche. As I had already read the first one I was thrilled to continue reading the series. To give you a little heads up, this book confers about North Korean history. There are some scenes that might trigger a few, just keep in mind that the storyline is 100% fictional.
If reading was a form of drug, juche series is my favourite drug. I don't know if it was my inquisitiveness to know more about North Korea or my love for YA dystopian that turned me Topsy turvy. I absolutely love this book and everything about it. The part one was amazing but this one draws a picture of the situation very clearly. The scenes are intriguing and horrifying all at the same time. I'm also amazed by the character transformation. I'm loving the new characters, even the less important ones. The life in concentration camp is a nightmare it's much worse than death. Well, its likely to be living in hell. As Areum and her family stands between a life or death situation the story gets more and more promising. The best thing about this book is that its relatable. The family dynamics, soul searching, the want of revenge and everything else is relevant in this world outside of a fictional world. I really like this quality about this book. There are not many books that are, succinct, well argued, thought- provoking, insightful, with no amplification.
I couldn't sleep last night, because I kept thinking about this book. Juche is an amazing unforgettable book the lives of the north korean citizens. The book speaks for itself. I just cannot wait to read the next one in the series.
